Superstars can be very good for business, so keeping them around is always in your best interest. The first step in keeping these superstars around is identifying them. Once you know what you’re looking for, it’s not difficult. Superstars generally:

Of course, these qualities are just the beginning. If you own a small business or organization, you absolutely want to keep your superstars around, if you’ve got them. After you identify them, you should acknowledge their hard work. Let them know you notice the extra effort they put in. Some effective ways to do this are:

Superstars may be so effective because they love your company, or it could be that they love to work, or it could be for any number of other reasons. Either way, their hard work will help you and your business succeed, so cherish any superstars you have. Be creative, perhaps you can’t afford to offer a pay raise, and don’t particularly like the other reinforcing ideas. Any way you can illustrate to you superstars that you notice they are working hard, you appreciate their hard work, you want their hard work to continue, and you want them to stay at your company will help.
